holiday planning: Saturday's language 1

heyy, it's vacation, so a lot of you will go on vacation. I don't know how many of you will go to Japan, but I like the language and I thought it mathced well with the comic theme of this week. I started learning Japanese when I was bored last summer. In the beginning of last school year, I got a book on how to learn Japanese from my chemistry teacher (because he had learned it). But because of school, I didn't pay attention to Japanese anymore, so this is a good excuse to start learning it again. I will give you the English sentence, the Japanese translation and the pronounciation.

1.) hello
こんにちは
kon'nichiwa

2.) How are you?
お元気ですか?
Ogenkidesuka?

3.) Fine. Thank you.
細かい。ありがとう
Komakai. Arigatō.

4.) What's your name?
お名前は何ですか?
Onamaehanandesuka?

5.) How old are you?
何歳ですか?
Nan-saidesu ka?

6.) How much does this cost?
これはどのくらいの費用でしょうか?
Kore wa dono kurai no hiyōdeshou ka?

7.) How is the food in this hotel?
このホテルの食べ物はどうですか?
Kono hoteru no tabemono wa dōdesu ka?

8.) Do you speak English?
英語を話せますか?
Eigo o hanasemasu ka?

9.) Yes
はい
Hai

10.) No
ノー

Also I'm going to teach you how to count in Japanese. It's a little different from the English way.

1 一 ichi
2 二 ni
3 三 san
4 四 yon/shi
5 五 go
6 六 roku
7 七 nana/shichi
8 八 hachi
9 九 ku/kyu
10 十 juu
100 百 hyaku
1000 千 sen
10.000 万 man

If you want to say 25, you have to do 2 : (x) 10 (+) 5 = ni-jû-go
If you want to say 263.381, you have to do : 26 (x) 10.000 (+) 3 (x) 1000 (+) 3 (x) 100 (+) 8 (x) 10 (+) 1 = nijû-roku-man-sanzen sanbyaku hachijû ichi

I think I started with the hardest language, but I hope it was useful and that you like it!

bye xxx
